If she's into the yin-yang thing, fine, the overwhelming majority are not interested either way, and even less impressed by it. So I hope her passion for it is a genuine personal thing, that really will stand the test of time - else she will be kicking herself for many many years longer than the years she alone was impressed by it.

lw is completely correct. talk to your artist about it. don't let just anyone do it.
pay attention, and see if the artists you talk to are interested, or just trying to get your money. look at their work!

i would suggest that you use hard lines for the bugs, and a blue or gray wash for the yin yang part. it would have to be a medium to dark wash so you will always be able to see it.

once you pick your artist, let him or her go, make sure you get across what you want out of it, but try to trust them. if you do a good job hiring the right artist, you will love the outcome.

She's a buddhist, Zydor. I didn't ask for your opinion on tattoos or yin-yangs. I was asking a design question. When I asked for comments, it wasn't intended to be a carte-blanche excuse to open your ass and pour shit out of it. If you're not inclined to answer what was clearly a question regarding aestheticism, why don't you just keep your mouth shut.

And by the way, the "overwhelming majority" that "aren't impressed with it" are a bunch of vacant eyed, shallow, mouth breathing fuck wits without a shred of originality or creativity. They're the last people she'd care to please were she to try and please anyone but herself in the first place.

The design is very interesting, especially with the yin-yang being two-sided, with three dragonflies.

Also, as to the depth of everything, I prefer the dragonfly on top of everything. Having one of the wings be dotted with the yin-yang dotty thing would be cool, too, but I don't know if that would ruin it.

For what it's worth, I like it with the yin yang. My fave is the last one.

I think what she's wanting to do could work and look really nice. I also think it's cool that you (her husband) are helping to design it.

Here was a different style dragonfly yin yang. I think it would definately be too busy for a tattoo but it's always interesting to see other variations.

yeh I second or is it third the though, that it matters where it is going to be placed that will have an effect on how well it 'shows' again I agree bring it to an artist that also happens to tattoo. if he can 'see' the beauty of it, you have a done deal, avoid someone that just shines you on, you will have the sense of who is 'feeling ' it and who is not. I have lived with one tat longer than most people here on joeuser have been alive the black leopard on my right arm with a scrolled "angel" {the name not the picture} over the top I payed a whopping 8 bucks for the leopard and 2 bucks for the name. I still love it 46 years later and the colors have stood the test of time, you can still see the red claw marks quite plainly.

You've jumped to the wrong conclusion - the above was no "attack", just fact. Most people are not into tatoos, nor yin-yang - if she is thats fine, I have no problem with it. It is also fact that many do regret a tatoo in later life. As long as she considered that, great.

Not every comment on JU is an attack just because it might be an alternate view that you disagree with. Particularly when in this case the person making it has a tatoo - like me....

Adrian won't let me until he gets his first tattoo first. Apparently we have to take turns getting tattoos. It wouldn't be "fair" for me to have 2 and him have 0.

Subtle is kind of what we're after, but as I stated, I'm lousy with graphic arts...you have no idea how long I struggled with photoshop to put those rudimentary ideas together I'm sure there's a way to make that yin-yang so that you only see it if you take a second look, and that is certainly something we would convey to the artist.

As LW once said, I'm not nearly as curmudegonly as the guy I play on JU. I just act that way to scare away those that can't form their own opinions because...well...because I hate them and think they're destroying the progress of the human race. Another day, another blog.
