This is a ramble...be forewarned.

I actually grew up in South Carolina.  Not a choice of my own, I assure you.

So this morning I see Facebook friends that are there moaning about the SC governor announcing that he was doing the horizontal polka with some Argentinian chick.  None of them expressed concern for his wife...they all expressed concern for the state.  What's wrong with the state again?  That the head of it is now established as a liar?  He's a politician...am I missing something here?

I'm not sure, but I don't think that people get upset at public figures caught for infidelity because it means they can no longer be trusted.  That's what everyone outcries.  "He poked another chick...he can't be trusted!!!!OMG OMG OMG!!!"  I think if people had no choice but to speak the whole truth of what they felt, then what came out of their mouths would more closely resemble "What if someone is cheating on me?"  It isn't that he can't be trusted...he couldn't be trusted in the first place because he is a leaf on the tree of mankind.  It's that he is now publicly representing something that people fear might happen to them.

If we weren't taught from birth that sex is more than what it is...or less than what it is...or anything except what it is, maybe we wouldn't get so worked up over it all the time.  What if people had sex as randomly as they go have coffee?  Leave disease out of the equation for a moment - I realize that with the exchange of bodily fluids comes a certain understanding of biology/chemistry etc...that's not my point.  What if it just didn't matter at all who had sex with who.  What if it was common to see two people going at it...hell...4 people...8 people!  EVERYBODY!  What if it just didn't matter as long as everyone was pleasant about it?  Some of you are probably staring at this page with your eyes bugging out at this point.  I just walked right into your sanctimonious living room, whipped out my penis, and peed on your floor.  Sorry...I'm a leaf, too.  At least I realize it.

In the 60s and 70s they called our fears "hangups" and then AIDs came along and all the prudes said "Ahhh...see?  It ISN'T a hangup, it's IMPORTANT."  No, it's just a hang up.  You aren't any more right now then you were then.  The biological implications are an added issue, but it doesn't change the fact that Americans, by and large, are seriously psychologically fucked up when it comes to the subject of sex.  Shoot...you aren't waiting for a stellar finish with a big point are you?  I got nothing.  Told ya it was a ramble

Most people are in the same way.

Sex is not just sex when it is part of a marriage (or simular).  I have had random sex with radomn people and there was nothing to it and it didn't make any difference.

My soon-to-be ex-wife had sex with somebody else and that really did make a difference .  There is a level of betrayl in it that at the recieving end of shatters your world.  If he was capable of that it is an indication that he is capable of other things.

He may be the same person he was but now it is better known that he is untrustworthy in ways over and above that of other politions.

The only difference between him and many other politicians is that he confessed it.

It's such a touchy subject to so many, that I fear it may be impossible to get my point across.
