I'm amazed

BSG 75, for those who aren't hip to this groove, is the call letters for the Battlestar Galactica.

For two years, people have been needling me about watching this new series, and I've hemmed and hawed. Because I saw the original Battlestar Galactica in the late 70s, and while it was entertaining as a kid, it's not something I'd watch as an adult. But, eventually I relented and watched the remake Battlestar Galactica pilot miniseries, and holy excrement! This show has substance. In fact, it has so much substance, I'm surprised it's still around since networks seem to love cancelling any show which might entice an audience to think. Easier to keep the masses in line if they're fed a constant intellectual diet of drool. But enough of my media conspiracy theories.

I just wanted to post this so that if anyone out there has been on the fence about checking out the new BSG because of their memories of that last cartoony, campy, schlocky show of the past, that they might get off that fence and try it out. I'm glad *I* did. It's rare that good entertainment has any longevity - see "Firefly" for an example - and so when something does, I want to publically notice it.

So go check out BSG at your earliest opportunity - PARTICULARLY if you're a middle aged person like myself that saw the old series - you'll be amazed at the difference. Oh - and check out Firefly, too. Awesome series - very sad it didn't last.

Galactica is the last great hope for the state of American television. I think it is the best show on TV today.

People are too willing to categorize this show, based on its "sci-fi" aspects. It's not a sci-fi show - it's an amazing drama that happens to have sci-fi elements in it.

You are right, though - it's gritty, it's emotional, it's breathtaking, it's frenetic . . . it's absolutely splendid.

More people should watch it so it can stick around a bit longer.

I'd have to agree with both of you. I personally think there is no show on television that comes close to it. I desperately hope that if they decide to move it to NBC that they won't "Lost" it up, or make a superhero cheerleeder a new character, or whatever...

I really think that it would fail on NBC regardless of whether they took "creative control" that far or not. It's not a major-network show. It's a cable show, and even though that means (cable or satellite-less that i am) that I don't get to watch it until DVD release . . . so very, very good.

Its core audience loves it enough, though, that I think we've got a couple years at least left in it . . .

For a moment I thought no other BSG lovers were going to chime in. Glad you did. Tell me (anyone) is this currently a Sci-fi network thing, and what is the deal with it maybe going to NBC? Having it go to network television is baaaaaad in my book. Some fan clue me in. (For those that might not understand, I'm stationed overseas, and we have almost NO idea what's going on in the television broadcast entertainment industry)

NBC is owned by SciFi's parent company. That's why you are starting to see NBC shows on there more often. In reality SciFi didn't have much respect for BSG as I understand it, and wouldn't put up enough backing to get the ball rolling. The BBC did, so that's why the first season was shown there before it was shown here.

Now that it is wildly popular and NBC is the network that didn't have Lost, and didn't have Desperate Housewives. Heroes has been pretty popular, so now they're digging for gold on cable it's said. Supposedly the reason they made the "recap" show (the synpopsis of the series so far they recently showed on SciFi and USA), was as prep work for moving it to NBC.

Granted, I think it is all rumor, but people were talking about how those who bought this whole season on ITunes had the last 5 episodes pre-refunded without much explaination. Some thought that heralds and abrupt move. I don't think anyone really knows for sure, but it seems idiotic that they wouldn't start things off at season 1 over there for people who've never seen it. A synopsis doesn't do it justice.

shhhhhhh there are "skin jobs" among us right now plotting our demise

Yeah, I noticed they started calling them that. I guess fans of Blade Runner could be annoyed or flattered.

Is that the show with Hercules in it? I watched one episode a few weeks back and it had far too much overacting for my liking.
