Ock's picture diary 1
Published on November 3, 2007 By OckhamsRazor In Blogging
Hiya JUs! I seem to be able to log on to the ole blogsite ok from my home aboard ship, so I sent Mari (my wife) a batch of pictures from our first gig to upload for me. Bandwidth out to sea is pretty narrow for uploading, but emailing seemed to work ok. So for those interested, I'll be posting some pics here from time to time.

We departed on this trip, bound for countries along the coast of West Africa, from Rota, Spain. But prior to leaving, they (yes, the ubiquitous they), wanted us to play at a club on the naval base there, so we did. Here's some shots, and I'll introduce you to the band along the way. So without further adieu and in no particular order...

First off we have Brian, our guitarist. Brian is kind of a spaz, which means he's a very entertaining guitarist. I don't have time to post all the pics I have of Brian, so I'm just posting this semi-normal one. You can imagine the others of him rolling around on the ground soaked with sweat from his antics on your own.

Next is our bassist Charlie. Charlie is what I call our "happy" guy. Pretty much always in a good mood - very tolerant of situations and the other people that cause them. He is also a great entertainer and an amazing dancer, though you probably don't think it to look at him.

Here's one of Charlie and Brian in action.

On drums and turntables, here's Chris Cancelliere and DJ Schmizz (same guy with different names depending on what he's doing.) Chris is a genius. Never seen anyone that can pick up absolutely and skill and become great at it so fast. He's also regularly featured as an interviewee for the band because he does that well, too.

So first on drums, and then on the scratch.

Our resident eye candy, though it's a little hard to tell with his face scrunched up blowing the tenor sax, is Joe Bailey who we affectionately refer to as "Jojo" after Jo jo the Monkey Boy. Joe is from Waco, Texas and reminds most folks of Forrest Gump. He's not stupid at all and has been known to kick people in the balls that suggest that (there's an inside funny story there - some other time maybe). He's innocent, though. Great rock sax player in any case.

Next is our one female and lead vocalist, Sarah.

And on alto and soprano sax, but more specifically as our rapper and in general our crazy nut type, is Gerry Shaffer. He's also our designated Phillipino connection. Here's one of Gerry in action, and then one of Gerry with me off to the side.

And last of all, the least photogenic of us (I take horrible pictures.) Here's a couple of yours truly - OckhamsRazor aka Steve.

And that's the Navy Band "Flagship" To come, I'm sure there will be some anecdotes dealing with various members and our adventures to Africa. I'll try to get good pictures and put them up here.

Until then, be well all!

Oh my.

You don't look like I thought you did.  I expected you to be a lot older, a fair bit heavier and much dorkier.  I like the reality better than my expectation, though.

May you have fair winds and following seas!

I didn't expect you heavier, but I second the older and dorkier...but maybe I'm projecting a bit.

Great pics, Ock! One of these days when you're in the states, I'm hoping I can meet up and jam with you. Until then...keep on rockin' the free world!

Pssst. Jackson Browne, dear. James Brown singing "Something Fine" would be a real hoot, though

Huh! Yeah! Morocco! HMM! Sumpin Fine! Yeah! Huh! Get Back! Sumpin' Fine, girl! *cackle*

As for the rest - not quite sure what to say. Logically, I must come to the conclusion that my writing is old, fat, and dorky. Hahaha. Ok, I'll see what I can do

Great pics, thanks for sharing them. Did you get a chance to get out and see some of the sites in Rota while there? I was only there once but really enjoyed it.

Hope to see more pics.

Didn't really see any sights, but we did make it to the Argentinian steak house I love so much. Been there about three separate times now - it's always awesome. Other than that, we just walked the streets and hung out in various eateries and drinkeries.
