I am not a huge crackerjack fan, but I have bought cereal (at the boys' insistence) JUST for the crappy 2 cent prize in the box.

 

The peanuts were my favorite, too.  I had no use for the caramel popcorn whatsoever.

 

 

Hehe.  And did they then dig to the bottom without eating the cereal and make the box all bowed out?  I'll raise my hand again.

I like Cracker Jacks.....the poor man's whatever is that stuff called anyway?  Candy popcorn?

I only ever liked the tattos...those were SWEET!

And when I couldn't afford cracker jacks, I used to dip popcorn in karo syrup...beat that!

 

That's what I always hoped to get, too.  Though it was usually some uselss plastic something.

 

 

Ok, I'll try.  A friend convinced me that a sandwich made of butter and sugar was good.  It was...for a while

I guess I'm the only real Cracker Jack fan here. (I'm such a consumer!).  I admit it, I like that hint of cardboard flavoring in each sicky sweet morsel.  That (somewhere between) soggy and stale texture can only be found in the box with Jack the Sailor and Bingo the Dog! 

I like the peanuts too, and often squeeze the box a little on each of hte short sides to let them fall to the bottom.  In a store somewhere I found bags of "just peanuts", which were really good, but well, the peanuts in the box pick up flavor from the carmel corn and (of course), the cardboard packaging.

(This is where I show my age)... Like many of you, I remember when Cracker Jack prizes were real toys... small, but actual plastic!  Decoder rings, mini action figures, some of the toys were even spring loaded.  Does anyone else remember the little magifying glasses?  So real you could kill ants on the sidewalk with them.

When the prizes were made of paper, they were still awesome.  I agree, Tova,  The lick 'em, stick 'em tattoos were great! But my favorite was always the "flip books".  Imagine, 2x2 animation in 10 pages!

I wonder if there are any in the pantry...

 

 

 

DENIED!  I guess I'll have to settle for this Panda Black Licorice (the absolute best brand of black licorice known to mankind!) ;~D

Never bought Crackerjacks...ever.

Tried it, never liked it...didn't bother with the prize, really.

I've never had Crackerjacks. I'd not really care about the prize anyways. The costs of video games for us too easily amused.

 

My babelfish is definitely on the fritz.

I remember when video arcades first were introduced...I lived in a little Ohio town and went to watch the kids play PACMAN. It was 25 cents a game, but that was too steep for my pockets...but I still enjoyed watching others play.

Then the home game system came out. ATARI anyone?

Now I have all the best atari games (Pacman, DigDug, Galactica, etc) on one little joy stick that plugs into the tv.

But my husband restricts my access...he says I get too loud and competitive.

Shesh, the kids today. Can't take an occasional noogie or punch on the arm to add to the challenge of the game.

what's your high score in Pac-man, Tova?  You can express that in terms of what board you got up to.  Points wasn't the marker in pac-man.  Number of keys was...at least back in the day when I spent valuable class time in an arcade.  I got up to 18 keys once.
