Celebrating other people's accomplishments
Published on May 22, 2008 By OckhamsRazor In Blogging

This blog probably isn't going to generate any discourse.  I just wanted to document the recent accomplishment of the drummer in the band I have the privelege of running.  His name is Chris, and he just got promoted to E5!

A little history on Chris.  Naples is his first band.  When he came to the band, he immediately became known as a "punk," which some of us loved, and of course, some did not.  But no one could say shit to him, because the guy can play.  He was in another rock unit for a year before I got to work with him.  Since he and I have gotten together in Flagship (I'm deliberately avoiding phrases like "since he started working for me" because I live by a philosophy that it's "our" band not "my" band - and that's why the phrasing is awkward) he has shown to me a creative genius of staggering proportions.

This guy can pretty much do anything - from extreme sports to learning complex software to painting to...hell, I say you name it, and if you want Chris to do it, he'll be able to in a short amount of time.  So it really made me happy that he gave me a call when he found out he picked up E5.  Way to go, bud.  And in tribute to you, so that everyone can get a good idea of the Chris we all know and love - yes - I found it out there.  He's on the left with the red hair.  The rest of the cast is Brian in the bandanna playing the guitar, and Charlie, our bass player, spilling beer.  Sarah, our vocalist is the camerawoman.  I disavow all knowledge of when and where this video was made.

Yes, these are the people I work with. I love them all.

Congrats to your buddy! E5 is a significant milepost rank (rate).

You know what I love about you and your wife. How you always celebrate other people's accomplishments as well as your own. I love that trait in a person.  Very uplifting.

Also, I enjoyed the video. Beautiful.

Damn, can't see the video on my PC at work, for some reason.  I will have a look when I get home, though.  While I am a guitarist, my first instrument of choice was drums but I could never get my hands to cooperate with my feet.  I still listen to and watch drummers more than I do any other musicians, though.  There is nothing like watching a great drummer in full flight.

Unfortunately, Maso, Chris is just being a...uh...percussionist in this video   And being himself.  He is a great drummer though

Thank you Kelly and Sabrina for the compliment.  I guess you're right, but hearing it said made me wonder why.  Why do I ALWAYS have to wonder "why" about everything?  See?  Just did it again.

Introspectively, I'd guess it's because Mari and I both see so much pain in the world that when someone, ANYone, scrambles up one rung of that ladder, it gives us hope.  So it's uplifting for us to see other people succeed.
