Too bad, so sad

A few days ago, I noticed that the forums weren't working as intended.  The way I "surf" JU is I look on the right to see what the popular articles are, and then I pick one and click it.  If none of those articles seem interesting, I look at the "Recent articles" list and pick one of those.  Once I've read that and responded or delcined to, I look again on the right for something new to view.  The problem was that once I had navigated away from my own blog, if I clicked something, I got this "waiting for scripts.stardock.com" message in my taskbar, and it just sat there.

So, I headed over to the "Forum Issues" forum to see if it was just me.  It wasn't.  There was a post there about "Forum Slowdowns" and so I added my two cents which included where it slowed down (for me) in an effort to HELP resolve the problem.  I didn't whine or bitch about the slowdown, I just stated the objective facts.

Well...andrew_ (not a typo, that is his screen name including the underscore) deleted my post as a "me too" response despite the fact that my response included specific information regarding WHAT was happening, WHEN it was happening, and messages in my browser WHILE it happened.  Is that information not useful when trying to solve a problem?  It certainly points you at what code is causing the issue if nothing else.

So this morning, I notice it's fixed, and I go back to that same forum to see if some sort of answer has been posted as to what exactly had happened.  What I found was that my post had been deleted by the forum mod.  Even though it included specific info as to where the problem was happening for me - something that was not included in ANY of the other posts there.  Strange.

So, I posted again.  And I was a little irate.  Know why?  Because I did NOT need to take MY TIME to address a Stardock forum issue.  I did so to help the community, and if it wasn't useful, well...it was free.  It was free information, that wasn't repeated information, provided by a paying customer.  (Yes, paying customer - I own 3 different Stardock applications.)

I guess andrew_ deleted that one too based on the private message I just received admonishing me for not following forum guidelines.

You know...life is too short.  No problem, andrew_.  Not only will I not bog down your precious forums with idiocy like facts, I won't darken Stardock's door at all any more.  No more Stardock purchases for me.  Thanks to you, buddy.  Try to delete THIS, bitch.

Oh, and by the way....if any of you admins feel really sensitive about this, don't confess it.  Don't admit that you're wrong.  Just lock the post.  I guess that since you already have possession of my money, it's no longer required to be respectful...I mean really.  What would THAT get you?

I find it incredibly amusing that Brad seems to believe that government should not be in the business of enforcing people to do "what is right" yet his own admins do exactly that whenever it pleases them.  Good times.  Also funny that the post was locked from taking comments but I can continue to enter stuff into the article as I see fit.  Hey guess what the Nazis will do next?  If you guessed 'stop me from editing the body of this post' you are correct!

Lock this one, too, Nazi...wouldn't want anyone to start thinking, would we?

Seems they can dish it out but can't take it. Hang in there Ock!

Thanks Roy.  I really am not attached to any of this...I just find it amusing.  The hypocrisy is palpable.

Once again, editing and deleting posts to make your point, will not go.

Thanks for not locking it against my will this time, ID.  You just rose a notch in my book.

Just for clarification - the terms of service probably need some updating since all blogs now end up on the forums.

That said, I agree with the OP on this. Stardock should not be removing people's posts simply because the content of them is upsetting to a particular moderator or admin. Andrew is not a moderator (he's the lead forum developer) and this issue has been discussed with him privately.

I don't think my post in particular upset him, per se.  (Unless, we're talking about the second one, which I only guess has been deleted - why would I go back to check?)

The first one he just didn't read what I said and compare it to what everyone else had said.  You had lots of tech geeks posting 200 line trace routes and ping times.  It wasn't a server issue which could be detected with a simple experiment.  Go to a forum post from your own blog = no issue.  Forums loaded immediately.  Go to it from someone else's blog, even the same exact post=big issue.  Hey gee...what's that?  A little message that says "Waiting for scripts.stardock.com"...hmmm...well it isn't the server, because I can get there from *here* but not from *over here.*  So all those traceroutes and pings were a waste of cyberspace.  And what was that message again?

C'mon.

Basically I think andrew_ was having a bad day chasing down *actual* retards and mistook me for one.  I don't have room in my life for hard feelings, so no more worries about the whole thing.

Arg!!! we all been spanked in one form or the other Ock. would hate to see you leave, I don't comment much these days, nor do I write much as I have been busy having a nervous breakdown and don't need the added stress, But I do read you and Mari when she does post. In other words for a very selfish reason, I hope you stay.
