A place where we practice random acts of insight and humor.
San Diegan once again!
Published on June 23, 2009 By OckhamsRazor In Life Journals

About 6 months ago, while I was still living in Va Bch, I suddenly became unable to respond to articles or create new posts, so for all practical purposes, I vanished.  Naturally i got in touch with JU staff about the problem - wanted to make sure there weren't blocks on my account for some reason.  There were not.

Then a weird thing happened.  I took my MacBook to school because one of my classmates was running a wireless network there, and the computers the Navy gave us to use in class didn't even allow us to google anything.  Oddly enough, I went to JU during lunch one day, and oh wow!  I could post!

So...I mailed the admins again.  It was clearly the IP.  For some reason, somehow, my IP at home was blocked.  I guess they never figured it out.  So I solved it myself.  I waited until it was time to move again.  Now here I am in San Diego, and whaddyaknow?  It all works now.  Surprise, surprise, surprise.  I hope whoever moves into the house we were renting for our short stay there isn't a JU.

Speaking of houses, the housing situation out here is pretty cruddy, but we just accepted the terms of a counteroffer on a 2600 sq ft "mansion" in La Mesa.  I never imagined owning anything that big.  I hope it goes through.  Mari and I are both anxious to have OUR place.  And fortunately, there are enough rooms in this place for each pet to have their very own room to destroy.

Had a good time driving from east coast to west coast with my son, who just graduated from High School.  Father and son cruising Las Vegas in a Miata with the top down was a pretty cool deal.  Lost a few hundred bucks, unfortunately - my gambling luck is very streaky.  Won 700 last time I was there.  I think me and Vegas are about even, which means I'm still beating the odds.  The words of an optimist.

Mari is going nuts.  Her Mom went into the hospital for her 3rd knee surgery last week.  Apparently Mom doesn't understand that walking on an unhealed knee is bad.  She won't call nurses to help her, she just tries to get out of bed on her own.  So Mari is either working or in the hospital room doing Insane Mom watch 24 hours a day.  To top it all off, her Dad just called saying Mari hadn't shown up to relieve him.  It's in the middle of the day.  Turns out there were a few emergency items at work and she couldn't get there.  Poor guy is missing his beer and his nap all because my wife has to do that ridiculous "job" thing.

Oh please let us get this house.  I can't stand this insane asylum much longer, and my poor spouse is a thread from a nervous breakdown from two parents that saying are "acting like children" would be a compliment.

Nice to see you back Ock. Nice to see past faces emerge from the vastness of the internet. Things have been a bit slow around here thought we do have a lot of new names around, still the site is lacking a bit of the spice it had when I first game here. I still have hope it will come back again like Hurricane season. Welcome back.

Nice to see you back Ock.

Ditto that.  You are one town away from the ancestral home of the BFD clan.  El Cajon was the center of my universe for the first years of my life.  I envy you being able to afford a home that size in that area.  Parts of La Mesa are really nice and the Eucalyptus trees add flavor heheheee.  Now that you are back in the saddle, I am looking forward to reading you again.  Welcome back.

Thanks, guys.  It seems we've lost many of the folks that made old sko0l JU what it was.

Glad you two are still here.

Best,

Ock

I'm remiss in mentioning that I look forward to meeting the new folks at JU.  Some will like me, and the ones that entertain insubstantial ideas will hate me.  I love the latter.  They sing my song full of praises.

We could use some more interesting articles. Some of the bloggers here have, unusual ideas, not so interesting articles and don't comment much. We could use a bit of a pick me up.

The top article is 300 pages of people pretending to ban each other from the forums.  That's the best the community can come up with, I guess.

Unfortunately, I shan't be the interest savior, but if the mood hits me, I'll crank out something.  I never have done it for the readership.

Hey,  you mean I'm not interesting? Well there you go, bursting my ego bubble.

Welcome back Ock, not sure if you remember me. (Though you not remember me might be a good thing...)

I remember everything.

That came from the gaming side of this mixed-up, intertwined, sometimes frustrating site.  What did you expect?

I only vaguely remember you from before, but never-the-less welcome back.

I remember everything.

So, you remember that one time at band camp? Sorry, but I'm skeptical that you have that good a memory. Unless I'm mistaken, it's impossible to remember everything because there was a few tests (Baldinger and Hodgkins I think) that suggested that like most other things with humans, memory also naturally deteriorates over time.

I could be wrong though.

I can still play the 2nd clarinet part to the second part of Holst's 1st suite for band.  I'm no longer a clarinet player and haven't been for years.  Want me to write it out, take a graphic, and post it?  I have Finale - would be happy to.

Me stating I remember "everything" was an exaggeration.  I should have said "everything of any significance, and many things that aren't."

Granted, I don't remember everything, but my memory is definitely part auralgraphic/photographic.  Happy to oblige whatever tests you wish.
