Not in San Diego

Everyone tells us "You're so lucky to be looking for a home, now!  It's a buyer's market!

No, it isn't.  Not where we are, at least.  San Diego, CA.

For nearly two months we've been looking for a good home to buy.  We pre-qualify for almost a half million dollars.  But homes out here are outrageous expensive, and every one we go see, the sharks are patrolling the waters.  Investors looking to buy, refurbish, and sell at a profit.

The problem is compounded by the fact that the moratorium on foreclosures in California was recently extended for 3 months.  This is an effort to drive prices "back up" to where they were when realty crashed.  I understand that this helps banks recover the money on foreclosed properties, but it doesn't help us a bit.

We currently have a counter counter counter offer in on a nice 2600 sq ft place in La Mesa that we call "The Mansion."

Standing by to stand by.

Good luck with the dealing; it can be a pain in you know where. Have you considered getting a place outside of SD and commuting?

My son found this out in Iowa.  He's in an area where they are putting up brand new condos and/or townhouses in what looks like cornfields all over the place.  The minute they go up for sale they are grabbed.  The prices are in the 135K range.  So after getting burned on one offer he put in, he had no choice but to accept the asking price on the next one that came up because they have to get out of their rental in August.  Hopefully this one will be finished by then.

What I can't understand is how quickly the banks want to give out their money.  I thought it was supposed to get tougher with all the troubles and all?  Not so I'm finding out.  I couldn't believe the banks approved him of a 200K loan even though he hadn't even started his new job yet and he's only 23 with no previous equity.  He was even surprised.  But he wants to get that first time home buyer incentive.

Did you know that you can file an ammended tax return for 08's taxes and get your 8K refund before Christmas if you're a first time home buyer?
