Where'd everyone go?

Put down that cheeseburger.  Now.  Do it NOW!   I haven't had one cigarette today, and it's all because of a wonderful device called the E-cigarette.  It delivers nicotine to the body on water vapor.  There's no smell, no tar, no second hand smoke, no smell in my clothes or on my breath.  It's WATER VAPOR with nicotine added.   The FDA, in its infinite wisdom, is looking at BANNING this device.  Oh man, we can't have you getting a nicotine fix ...

I Facebook a lot.  And I have a lot of old friends who are diehard Christians.  I love them, just the same, but at times I become perturbed.   Here's the scenario.  Multiple facebook friends had significant others in surgery at the same time.  They all thanked God for their successful surgeries.  Ok, that's fine.  But something was missing.   Do you know how freaking long it takes to become a surgeon?  Have you ANY idea what is required to...

Just in case His Noodly Appendage has not yet touched you, you should read what the Flying Spaghetti Monster is all about.  The author won't care that I copied this, because the Flying Spaghetti Monster doesn't get his meatballs in a twist over such things. _________________________________________   Open Letter To Kansas School Board I am writing you with much concern after having read of your hearing to decide whether the alternative theory of Intelligent Design should...

Everyone tells us "You're so lucky to be looking for a home, now!  It's a buyer's market!   No, it isn't.  Not where we are, at least.  San Diego, CA.   For nearly two months we've been looking for a good home to buy.  We pre-qualify for almost a half million dollars.  But homes out here are outrageous expensive, and every one we go see, the sharks are patrolling the waters.  Investors looking to buy, refurbish, and sell at a profit.   ...

My IQ is 147 - I have no idea what that means.  I've always noticed, however, that if you bring up IQ scores, people get real insecure, really damn fast.  I find it a fun pastime to see what people will say when I tell them mine is 147 - whatever the hell that means.  The outcry from the idiots is deafening.  Poor babies :/   Why is insecurity about one's intelligence more severe than insecurity about one's ability to run fast, or throw far, or score more goal unit...

I don't know about you, but when I am disturbed by something, I tend to react to it with humor.  Like the death of a pop star, for example.  Or the death of a sex symbol.   It's uncomfortable when someone we all know of dies, and people react to it different ways.  But if you react to it with humor, because maybe it hurts you, too, and that's how you deal with it, a certain sect of the population who believe they are morally superior shout "TOO SOON!"   Here'...

This is a ramble...be forewarned.   I actually grew up in South Carolina.  Not a choice of my own, I assure you.   So this morning I see Facebook friends that are there moaning about the SC governor announcing that he was doing the horizontal polka with some Argentinian chick.  None of them expressed concern for his wife...they all expressed concern for the state.  What's wrong with the state again?  That the head of it is now established as a liar? &nbs...

I've become very accustomed to Facebook.  In fact, it was Facebook that was the sole reason I hooked up with 8 of my old high school buddies for a party about one month ago.  It was an awesome party, and we all just shook our heads at the awesomeness of Facebook bringing old ties back to life.  It's a party which will grow and become annual.   But there's a downside.  I have to keep my mouth shut sometimes, and anyone here that knows me KNOWS that I refuse to keep ...

QFT __________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I work as a scientist in the area of coating nanotechnology, or more precisely in the development of so called nano sputtering methods. Nano sputtering is a way to position single atoms or clusters of many atoms onto a surface to form a pattern with a nanometer thickness. Often the result is rather random; it is a little bit like firing off a shotgun against a wall with the atoms ...

About 6 months ago, while I was still living in Va Bch, I suddenly became unable to respond to articles or create new posts, so for all practical purposes, I vanished.  Naturally i got in touch with JU staff about the problem - wanted to make sure there weren't blocks on my account for some reason.  There were not.   Then a weird thing happened.  I took my MacBook to school because one of my classmates was running a wireless network there, and the computers the Navy gav...

Ok if you read the title, don't get me wrong.  I'm the coolest!  Right...   Long story short, I made a facebook profile, and there are all these little gadgets you can add to your page.  One of them is called "Pieces of Flair" which if you don't know is a reference to one of the great movies of all time, Office Space.  Basically, a waitress in the movie is supposed to wear lots of doo-dads on her uniform to show how motivated she is about her workplace.  The d...

I can play in front of an audience all day and not think twice about ooooooh...being on stage.  Don't give a shit.   Make me play in front of my peers?  I give a BIG shit.  Usually right in my pants.  There's nothing worse for me than playing music while my peers sit and critique me.   So, since day 1 of my career as a US Navy musician, I have dreaded going back to the Armed Forces School of Music, because I've been petrified to audition in front of my p...

I've been reading a lot of articles on this election thing.  Man, there's plenty of them.  And there seem to be five types of people.   1.  Liberal whackos who would vote liberal if a convicted serial killer was running on the democratic ticket. 2.  Conservative whackos who would do the same exact thing in reverse. 3.  People who are voting republican because they can't stand democratic ideology. 4.  People who are voting Democrat for the same re...

Long ago, JoeUser was just this free place to blog.  And it was pointed out many times that "Hey...this was just a sideshow Brad started.  He doesn't need it.  He doesn't have to provide this place.  Be grateful you have a place to blog...be grateful they provide server space for your mental wanderings."   And we were.   But notice what JU is now?  There are some people here (not me) that attract a fairly large audience.  And when that audience...
